Capture to Chemistry - A film photography workshop

Join the Outdoors Society and Splendid Photo teams for a hands-on film photography experience.

The Outdoors Society team will take you on a guided photography expression session around Piha Beach. You’ll be tasked to shoot a roll of black and white film while exploring dramatic landscapes, rugged rock formations, crashing waves and coastal trails.

We will then return to the Outdoors Society store where the team from Splendid Photo will guide you through the full development process. You’ll develop your roll of film which you captured earlier and learn the fundamentals of bringing your images to life.

This will be a cruisey yet intentional approach to photography. Less about perfection, more about the process, creativity and connection.

A basic knowledge of photography will be required and either a Manual or Automatic camera will be fine. If you don’t own a film camera and still want to be part of the workshop we have a few to go around. Please select ‘Camera Required’ when purchasing your ticket.

Your ticket includes a roll of Ilford HP5 35mm film, a development lesson, high-quality scans of your images and dinner.

If you are restricted with transport, we should be able to arrange a carpooling option for you.
