Curtin Faculty of Business and Law Presents: ABDC Societal Impact Framework Workshop
Description
The Faculty of Business and Law warmly invites you to attend Capturing and Communicating Societal Impact: Presenting the ABDC Societal Impact Framework for Business Research, presented by Dr Chelsea Phillips.
This workshop will introduce the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Societal Impact Framework for Business Research and explore how it can support business schools and researchers to better capture, communicate and demonstrate the societal impact of their research.
About the Presenter
Dr Chelsea Phillips is the Societal Impact Postdoctoral Researcher for the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC), and is a Visiting Fellow at UNSW Business School.
In her role at the ABDC, she developed the ABDC Societal Impact Framework for Business Research, which enables researchers and business schools to capture, communicate, and demonstrate the societal impact of their research.
While her current research centres on societal impact, she was the first doctoral graduate of the double-degree PhD program with QUT and Maastricht University (Netherlands), and obtained her PhD in services marketing in 2024. Her PhD focussed on service robots and examined the implications of automation for frontline employee well-being across hospitality and aged care settings, earning her recognition as a finalist for the SERVSIG Best Dissertation Award.
About the Workshop
As public scrutiny of research relevance intensifies, universities and business schools worldwide face growing pressure to evidence their social licence. While business schools conduct highly valuable research that can generate societal impact, this impact is under-realised and –recognised as it is difficult to capture and communicate as a social science.
This seminar, led by postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Chelsea Phillips, presents the Australian Business Deans Council Societal Impact Framework for Business Research (ABDC SIF). As the collective voice for business schools in Australia, the ABDC developed this operational and conceptual framework with theoretical foundations specifically for business schools via a scholarly, organisational/governmental, and societal impact approach for capturing and communicating research impact. In this seminar, the ABDC SIF is also applied to a Curtin Business School case study to demonstrate how it can be used to capture and illustrate societal impact generated through research.
