Topic: Teaching wellbeing in 2026: The rising social, emotional and digital pressures affecting young people’s wellbeing.

Dr Michael Carr‑Gregg AO is one of Australia’s most respected and recognisable child and adolescent psychologists, widely known for his evidence‑based advocacy in youth mental health, wellbeing and education. With a career spanning more than four decades, he has dedicated his professional life to improving outcomes for young people and strengthening the systems that support them. His early clinical and academic work focused on vulnerable adolescents, culminating in his PhD at the University of New South Wales and the founding of CanTeen, Australia’s first peer support organisation for young people living with cancer.

A passionate educator and reformer, Michael has held senior academic roles including Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne, where he established Australia’s first Graduate Diploma in Adolescent Health and Welfare. He is a founding member of the National Centre Against Bullying, has chaired its Cybersafety Committee, and has advised governments and education systems nationally on school wellbeing, bullying prevention and digital safety.

Widely trusted by parents and educators, Michael works extensively with schools and parent communities, delivering practical, research‑informed insights on adolescence, resilience, cyber safety and family communication. He is a familiar presence across Australian media, serving as resident parenting expert on Channel Seven’s Sunrise and a regular contributor on Radio 3AW. An accomplished author, he has written more than a dozen bestselling parenting books, including Surviving Adolescents, The Princess Bitchface Syndrome 2.0 and Beyond Cyberbullying. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to youth mental health and community service, he has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia.
