Career Chat with Senator Mehreen Faruqi & MP Michael Berkman | QUT student Greens Club
Event description
Come along to our first event as a new political club at QUT. This event will help students to find careers that promote sustainability, social justice and peace.
Guest speakers include Senator Mehreen Faruqi (online) and MP Michael Berkman (In person).
Michael Berkman is the current member of parliament for Maiwar in Queensland.
Before entering politics Michael was public interest environmental lawyer working in a community legal centre, representing communities in court cases against companies like Adani. Michael's work focused on fighting thermal coal projects that threaten surrounding ecosystems, communities and farmland, not to mention our climate.
Senator Faruqi is a civil and environmental engineer and life-long activist for social and environmental justice.
Mehreen has worked in leadership positions for local government, consulting firms and as an academic in Australia and internationally. She has been named one of the 100 most influential engineers in Australia and received the UNSW Faculty of Engineering Award for Leadership, and remains a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and a member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand.
