The challenge

Every day, Australians make life-changing decisions about study, training and work. Yet finding the right information, making sense of it and knowing what to do next isn't always easy.

That's where you come in. Your ideas could help make the jobs and skills system easier to navigate and support Australians of all ages to make more confident decisions about their careers, skills and future opportunities.

You'll work alongside students, industry professionals, researchers and innovators to explore the challenge from different perspectives and turn ideas into practical solutions.

You'll also have a wealth of jobs and skills data at your fingertips – covering everything from skills transferability and workforce shortages to training outcomes, salaries, employment and future workforce demand.

Get curious, uncover the opportunities and use evidence to shape ideas that could make a real difference for Australians making career decisions.

What to expect

New to hackathons? No problem. A hackathon is simply a fast-paced, collaborative event where people work together to explore a challenge, develop ideas and turn the strongest ones into practical solutions.

You can register individually or as part of a team. If you sign up solo, we'll match you up with a group before the event.

Throughout the hackathon, experienced mentors and facilitators will help you:

• refine and strengthen your ideas

• challenge assumptions and explore new perspectives

• navigate complex problems

• develop solutions grounded in real-world needs

• prepare for your final pitch.

We're committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming experience for everyone. The venue will be fully accessible, a quiet room will be available, and support will be provided throughout the day. If there is anything we can do to help you take part comfortably and confidently, please let us know.

Who should attend?

You don't need to be a coder or tech expert to attend. Despite the name, there will be no breaking into computer systems required.

The hackathon is open to people aged 18 and over, who can attend the in-person event.
