Carer Connection Event - Understanding Sexuality and Puberty for People with Disability

CARERS ONLY EVENT
This free in-person session will explore sexuality and relationship education for people with disability, why it is essential, and why it is often overlooked. The session will also touch on puberty, awareness, and providing practical and informed insights for carers.
This is an interactive event with opportunity to ask questions you would like answered and learn together with other carers.
What Participants Will Gain
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of:
• The importance of sexuality and relationship education
• The impacts of not receiving this education
• Puberty and body awareness
• Real-world case study examples
• Practical approaches and considerations to support and educate their child
This event includes lunch and time to connect with other carers.

Courtney King
Courtney has 10 years of experience working with students with disabilities. While studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Disability Studies), she worked as an education support aide, gaining valuable experience supporting individuals with disabilities at a mainstream high school, primary school and special school. Once graduated, she began teaching in Special Education where she remained for five years. During this time, she taught in the classroom and as a specialist teacher in Drug and Alcohol Education and Sexuality and Relationships Education (SRE). Courtney is endlessly passionate about SRE because it is a human right and she believes that everyone deserves to have a range of healthy and fulfilling relationships, alongside a toolbox of supports and skills to keep themselves safe, happy and healthy. She utilises a trauma-informed, harm-reduction approach and is dedicated to adapting her teaching to meet each participant’s individual needs.
