Event description

Cark It Café: Sing, Laugh, Plan — and Dance it Out
Hosted by Jewelz (The Hoola Doola) of
Jewelz A Hoopz

Event 2 of the Cark It Café series brings a joyful, musical, and slightly mischievous lens to the big themes of death, memory, and legacy — with singalongs, songwriting, playlists, and more. We’ll keep things light before we shift gears into the more practical side of planning for the inevitable — all held in a warm, LGBTIQ+ led space.

🕘 Doors open at 9:45am for a 10:00am prompt start

Event Schedule & Highlights:

🎤 10:00am – 11:30am |

Memento Mori: Let’s Sing About Death, Baby with Cassy Judy
Join proud trans woman, comedy queen, and legal aid lawyer Cassy Judy for a laugh-out-loud songwriting session where death gets the cabaret treatment.
Known for her cheeky charm and razor-sharp wit, Cassy will guide you through the art of turning life’s final chapter into comedy gold.
You’ll collaborate on a group song, start writing your own cheeky lyrics, and discover how humour and music can transform even the heaviest themes into connection, catharsis — and chaos (bubble machines included).
No musical experience required. Just bring your funny bone.

🎶 12:30pm – 2:00pm |

Music & More for Life with Jewelz the Hoola Doola
Performance artist, death doula, and creative spark
Jewelz the Hoola Doola invites you to explore the soundtrack of your life — and beyond.
Inspired by the
Playlist for Life project (designed for dementia care), this feel-good workshop dives into the music, poetry, shows, and stories that matter most.
You’ll create a playlist or memory bank that reflects your journey, soothes your soul, and helps others remember you in all your fabulous fullness.
From road trip anthems to goodbye ballads — let’s make sure your final playlist gets the dancefloor going one last time.

☕ 2:30pm – 4:30pm |

Cark It Café — A Death Café with a Legal Twist
This isn’t counselling — it’s a cuppa-fuelled conversation.

The Cark It Café version of a Death Café is all about community dialogue around dying, held with heart and honesty — and in this session, we’re adding some legal clarity too.

Guest speaker Larissa Schreiber from Dowson Turco Lawyers (DTL) — Australia’s only Out Loud and Proud LGBTQ+ law firm — will guide us through the essentials of estate planning.

The session will explore:

  • Estate planning essentials

  • Wills, Enduring Guardianship, and Powers of Attorney

  • Planning with clarity and confidence, especially for LGBTQ+ lives and families

Holding Space at Cark It Café
We’re joined by Jude Tynan (she/they), a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Social Worker and Family Therapist. Jude specialises in working with the LGBTIQ+ community, survivors of adult and childhood trauma, complex family dynamics, and relationship difficulties.
From 12:30–4:30pm, Jude will be there to simply sit, listen, and hold space.
