Carnatic Music Workshops with Kiranavali Vidyasankar

Carnatic music is the classical music of Southern India, a vibrant, living tradition with a centuries-long history passed on primarily through oral teachings. It is grounded in basic principles of melody (raga) and rhythm (tala) that give rise to an infinite variety of musical forms. 

In these two workshop sessions, world-renowned Carnatic vocalist Kiranavali Vidyasankar will share short performances, provide historical and cultural context, and teach some techniques and ideas underlying the music. Attendees will be invited to participate at times, but are also welcome to simply listen and observe.

These workshops will be of interest to musicians, to enthusiasts of Indian music and culture, and to anyone hoping to expand their musical horizons.
