Casey Tech School: Code to Canvas - Teacher PD
Description
How does art and design fit in a STEM world? How can we find the intersection of mathematics, art and design?
In this one-day workshop you will use coding software Processing to produce anaglyphs, the classic red-cyan 3D images familiar from pop-up books and cinema.
Using high contrast baroque portraits, write code to manipulate colour channels and apply geometric transformations based on lightness. This will then create the svg. file that will be used to etch onto clear acrylic and produce an interactive art installation.
Program objective:
● The aim is to empower you with the skills and knowledge to apply industry standard software with cutting-edge equipment
● You will receive hands-on training and support from our expert facilitators to produce refined solutions as a final product
● Handouts and digital resources will be available post session so that you can re-imagine and adapt into your classroom practice
● To build a community of practice for passionate educators to engage in trialling and prototyping for classroom initiatives.

9.30am to11.00am Room: Digi Lab | Session 1: Processing - using code to draw ● Learn the basics of coding in Processing ● Challenge: create a simple drawing using code (circle, square, line etc) ● Use baroque portraits to create a halftone image file for laser cutting | Room: Digi Lab ● All computers with Processing program downloaded ● Affinity up to date |

11.15am to 12.30pm Room: Digi Lab, Fab Lab | Session 2: Prepare the file for laser cutting ● Format design using Affinity or software ● Prepare for laser cutting - demo how to set up and start laser cut | Room: Digi Lab ● As above Room: Fab Lab ● Clear acrylic 3mm - 2-3 sheets ● Both lasers available and working, including computers ● Posca markers/ acrylic paint with rollers. |

1.00pm to 2.30pm Room: Fab Lab, Digi Lab | Session 3: Production of artwork ● Finalise laser cutting - choice to keep plain or colour in with posca marker/acrylic paint to make anaglyph ● Extension: use SVG file to create a stylised movie poster/album cover. | Room: Fab Lab and Digi Lab |
What to bring:
On arrival, please provide your car registration to the front desk for a parking permit.
