Step into the shadows for an evening of dark elegance, haunting beauty and avant-garde anarchy at this year’s ‘Castlemaine Gothic’-themed Spring Ball.

Embrace the mystery, melancholy and majesty of the Castlemaine Town Hall. Marvel at its dramatic beauty. Party like it’s 1899!

Take inspiration from turn-of-the-century artistic movements and aesthetics with gothic sensibilities: from the morally morbid to the sublime, from post-punk to haunting decay, anything goes at the Spring Ball!

Glide around the dance floor to everyone’s favourite cover band, the Castlemaine Idyll Band.

Groove along with DJ Special Raconteur and DJ Kyan!

Castlemaine Community House will run a bar with drinks and gothic-themed cocktails at friendly prices; a light supper will also be provided. Memories of the night can be captured at the free photobooth.

Need some costume inspiration?

Castlemaine Community House is running a short sewing course to help you transform op shop treasurers or fabrics into a Castlemaine Gothic masterpiece.

We've got sewing machines you can borrow, but you are also welcome to bring your own. Week one will be all about planning and design, week two and three making your base pieces, week three decorating and finishing. You might even win best dressed at the Spring Ball fashion parade!

Don't forget all the trappings that make gothic great: velvet, lace, ribbons, leather, feathers, capes, big sleeves, gremlins, gargoyles and monsters.
