Event description

Catalyse For Purpose Business is a 3-day intensive workshop program. If you have an established business - or you want to start a business - and you desire making a greater impact but you are not sure where to start, this collaborative incubator space will help you to explore your ideas and practice using the tools of Social Enterprise.

Make a difference in the Canberra communityThe Mill House network encourages impact

Over three days, you will work through a facilitated process to unpack Theory of Change, apply the tools of Program Logic to your idea, identify gaps and document your idea in a way that makes it easier for mentors, advisors and stakeholders to understand your vision and support your social purpose. Catalyse For Purpose Business is a pre-requisite for GRIST.

Catalyse For Purpose Business offers an inclusive and supportive collaboration space to incubate social innovation, investigate the social, economic, cultural or environmental problem and practice creating actions to drive your impact mission, while playing with the tools that help develop a social enterprise business model.

Audience

For those not used to turning ideas into impact or revenue, changemakers new to entrepreneurship and those wanting to explore an incubator program for Social Enterprises, Catalyse For Purpose Business is a collaborative and supportive program to give you time to incubate your idea and prepare for an accelerator.

What’s in it for you?

This program will explore the unique asset class known as social enterprise. Those not sure if their idea is ready for market can use the Catalyse For Purpose Business sessions to understand how trade and entrepreneurship can be harnessed for social innovation & impact.

Participants will learn about theory of change, create a basic hypothesis for how they will make measurable and definable change, and explore social entrepreneurship using tools such as the Social Enterprise Business Model Canvas. You will also understand where your possible intervention ‘fits’ into the existing social innovation landscape in the Canberra, ACT and southern region of NSW.

Pre-requisites:

  • Consulted with the Mill House team to explore your idea (i.e., explained the impact, or indicated your willingness to explore trading products or services) BOOK HERE https://www.millhouseventures....
  • A passion and curiosity for social innovation that uses trade to intervene in wicked problems

How much does it cost?

We have a suggested co-contribution of $750 plus GST per venture (this includes up to 3 people).

We call this a co-contribution rather than a fee to acknowledge that our services are made possible only for the generous subsidy of our Members and Partners.  Based on comparable programs in Australia and globally, we believe the market value of our program is approximately $5,000 per participant.

Co-contribution payments can be made in instalments and no fees or interest apply.  We also offer scholarships for community projects with exceptional potential impact in Canberra or its region when the founder is unable to make any contribution. Please reach out and ask us how you can access support by booking a consultation via our website. Any member of our team can help you.

Financial Hardship: Need financial support? We have the discretion to support our changemakers who are experiencing financial hardship. We also offer flexible payment terms.

Your commitment: Also, consider the value of your time. In addition to the learning time and workshops, you will also have tasks to complete between sessions. We encourage the participation of teams who can share the load so you can “socialise” your idea and strengthen it with diverse thoughts and collaboration.

Program Agenda:

Day one - Designing for Impact - learn about Social Enterprise models, social license, social entrepreneurship and develop you vision, mission and social purpose

Day two - Using the power of the marketplace, and introduction to finances and you - learn about venture building, identifying opportunities and managing the tension of impact and profit while developing your cost and revenue estimates and building your first forecast.

Day three - Learn about the Social Enterprise Business Model canvas and pitching, and develop your canvas so you can describe your model and practice pitching

During the program, you will also have a Field Day, which is your own time to help you socialise your idea, activate your networks and engage with your community. This could be a conversation with a mentor, volunteer with a social enterprise, interview a person with lived experience, attend a community development networking event or even pitch for the Innovation community at CBRIN.
