Event description

Canberra Blues Society Monthly Blues Jam hosted by Blue Tone Specials.

While the faces of the Blue Tone Specials will be familiar to all CBS regulars, the music may not be.

Well based in the blues with a healthy dose of rock spice, the band covers Willie Dixon, The Allman Brothers, Robert Johnson, Tony Joe White, Etta James, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin and many more.

The band consists of the following regular attendees at the jams.

Matt Fitzgerald – Guitars, Vocals and Lead Musical Director / Old Jokes. Matt played and sang for many years in clubs and pubs across Sydney. The bands included ‘Good morning’, ‘The Imports’, ‘Mistaken I.D.’ and the ‘C.J. Turner Duo’. He could tell you a tale or two about this time in his life, but will he? After an hiatus and a move to Canberra, the call of the guitar became too great and he initiated the Blue Tone Specials.

Steve Hartnett – Harmonica, Vocals and Occasional Musical Director / Rehearsal Host. Steve is currently a member of “The Drivers” (formerly “Backbeat Drivers”). Previous bands include ‘Off the Wall’ and ‘Big Town Playboys’, and he has performed and recorded with ‘The Seventh Sons’.

Doug Curry – Bass and Occasional Musical Director / Inspirational riffs. Doug is well known in local musical circles and frequently attends blues festivals around the country. Currently Doug also plays for the ‘Roger Bone Band’ and ‘Mattersphere’. Past bands include ‘The Blues Channel’ and ‘Prophecy’.

Guest drummer Gavin Kelly – CBS Musicians Rep & all round good guy, Gavin Kelly is stepping in for Dave McRae.

The host band will be followed by some of the finest musicians in the Canberra Region jamming together for a great afternoon of live music.
