Cedarsmoke + Elbury
Event description
Cedarsmoke and Elbury come together for a night of indie folk-rock. Celebrating the release of sophomore album, 'The Great & The Terrible', singer-songwriter, Jon Cloumassis performs strip-backed songs old and new with an acoustic guitar and harmonica. 5-piece alternative-folk outfit, Elbury bring their unique blend of harmonies, piano ballads and fun, upbeat rockers to the stage.
Cedarsmoke is the indie-folk-rock project of Brisbane-based singer-songwriter, Jon Cloumassis. Since first releasing music in 2016, Cedarsmoke have produced 4 EPs and 1 full-length album: 2021’s ‘Into The Wild World’. With a lyric-centred approach to songwriting, Cedarsmoke create literary and narrative-driven songs, reminiscent of artists such as Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Augie March and Bright Eyes. Featuring a diverse cast of characters and bittersweet stories, Cedarsmoke weave an intricate tapestry on their albums where themes and characters are threaded throughout. Revolving around pianos and acoustic guitars, Cedarsmoke’s songs are roots-influenced while featuring a variety of ballads, rockers and pop tunes.
Elbury are a five-piece original alternative-folk act from Brisbane, with a repertoire that at times verges on rock but also lots of singer-songwriter tunes, a few piano ballads and some fun, upbeat numbers. Musicianship is a big focus for the band – weaving together layers of guitar and piano to create lush sonic textures. All five members sing at times, so there is lots of vocal harmony and variation throughout the live show to keep the audience engaged. The team hail from diverse musical backgrounds – a Nick Cave man, a prog-rocker, singer-songwriters and indie-fans – and everyone adds their own special twist to the mix. In 2021, Elbury released three new music videos and their second full-length album – A Life in Stages.
