Celebrate Christine Townend
Event description
Animal Liberation's founder, Christine Townend, received an Order of Australia for her amazing animal welfare work.
In
1976, Christine became inspired to fight for animals after reading
Peter Singers book, Animal Liberation. Christine began raising issues about the treatment of farmed animals, their living conditions, and live export. We continue to raise awareness about these issues, 43 years later.
Christine and her husband, Jeremy, opened animal shelters in Darjeeling and Kalimpong in India, both are still operating today!
Christine also founded Animals Australia in 1980.
