Celebrate Opera, Otago!Â
Opera Otago is pleased to present Celebrate Opera, Otago!, a gala concert that showcases the rich tradition of opera by featuring great opera choruses, arias and ensembles. The programme will include a selection of well-loved works carefully selected from the operatic repertoire to captivate and inspire the audience. Choral highlights include the joyful bridal chorus from Smetana’s Bartered Bride, the inspirational Easter Hymn from Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and the powerfully moving Slaves’ Chorus from Verdi's Nabucco.Â
Well-known Otago-based professional soloists Rebecca Ryan (soprano), Claire Barton (mezzo-soprano) and Federico Freschi (baritone) will be joined by newcomers Teddy Finney-Waters, Arrochar Voice, Kieran Kelly, Jemma Chester, Erin Connelly Whyte, Griffin Nichol and Cathy Hightown-Sim. These talented singers will showcase their exceptional talents in arias and ensembles from, amongst others, Mozart’s Magic Flute, Gounod’s Faust, Bizet’s Carmen and Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. Under the expert guidance of musical director Nathaniel Otley and accompanied by Sandra Crawshaw, the chorus and soloists will provide a splendid celebration of the grand art of opera, offering a diverse range of styles and emotions.
By showcasing the talents of Otago’s finest singers, both established and emerging, Opera Otago celebrates the grand art of opera and create a memorable experience for all music lovers.Â
