Celebrating Cultures Pop- Up: Foil Embossing

Join artist Sahana Rahman for a hands-on workshop exploring the art of foil embossing, inspired by South Asian decorative traditions and craft histories. Using accessible and sustainable materials, including recycled aluminium such as BBQ foil trays, participants will learn basic embossing techniques to create their own unique framed artwork. Through guided mark-making and embossing processes, you'll explore pattern, texture, and symbolism while drawing on personal stories, memories, and cultural influences to inform your design.

Sahana Rahman: Sahana is a Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan Tamil artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Her practice explores her experiences with multi-hyphenated identities, decolonisation, life events, healing, and spirituality. Working primarily in mixed media, she focuses on embroidery, textiles, and painting, using intuitive flow and repetitive motions to create therapeutic releases for her mental well-being. Her recent works also draw from the rich art and textile histories of her South Asian heritage.
