CELEBRATING TARANAKI – at the top of Aotearoa’s AI for Environment capabilities in the field

Join us for this in person event where we celebrate Taranaki being at the top of Aotearoa’s AI for Environment capabilities in the field.
PANEL DISCUSSION
We will be discussing how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is supporting the region’s strategy and long-term vision for a resilient, high-value, and low-emissions future as articulated by Tapaue Roa and Taranaki 2050 – the guiding strategic documents for the region, co-created with the people of Taranaki.
What we have done so far:
In May 2022 we released our AI for the Environment Report. It provides an overview of the current state of AI for the environment in Aotearoa New Zealand, and what a thriving future might look like.
It asks how and where we should focus our limited resources and time most effectively, and at the same time be inclusive of our people, our indigenous history and protect our individual rights?
In September we ran a series of hackathons across New Zealand to demonstrate practical ways to answer the challenges in the report. That culminated in the first ever TAIAO Award at the national AI Summit on 12 September.
Translating these concepts into value for Taranaki:
Taranaki provided some excellent case studies and information for the report that uncovered just how far ahead of the game the region is when it comes to applying AI for the Environment in real world examples.
Our research showed that across New Zealand only 13% of AI for Environment projects ever make it out of the lab and into the real world – and this is where Taranaki really shone. From pest trapping and protecting marine species to counting Weta.
Now we are coming to Taranaki to celebrate these successes and find new ways to translate these concepts into value for the region.
