Celebrating the Life of Akel

Just to clarify, this is a fundraiser and farewell event for Akel with all proceeds are going towards helping cover the costs of the farewell Akel truly deserves, and we apologise if anyone is upset at the way it is being shared.

This platform, Humanitix, was chosen because it gives people a range of ways to contribute so people can choose the option that works best for them. The wording and payment options are part of the platform and unfortunately aren’t something we can customise.

But honestly, life is too short to get caught up in the small details.

At the end of the day, this is about Akel: remembering her, sharing stories, laughing, crying, and celebrating the life she lived and the people who loved her. That’s what the focus should be. We’re simply trying to make it as accessible as possible for people.

As long as this day honours her, remembers her, celebrates her, creates awareness, shows the love we all have for her, and raises enough money for a beautiful funeral, that's what truly matters.

Akel was a daughter, a sister, a friend, and someone who was deeply loved by so many. She had one of the biggest hearts ever and this incredible ability to forgive and give people a second chance. Her loyalty to those she cared about was unwavering, and she was always able to see the good in others.

She was also unbelievably funny. Akel had a humour that was completely her own and could make people laugh even in the most ordinary moments.

We want to bring the people who loved Akel together to celebrate the person she was, share stories, enjoy the things she loved and create one more day filled with the laughter, music, food and connection that she brought into the lives of others.

The day will include a BBQ with plates of food available to purchase, along with memorial T-shirts and keyrings. These are more than just things to take home: they are small reminders of Akel and a way for the people who loved her to carry her memory with them.

All proceeds from the day will go towards supporting Akel’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

Most importantly, this is a day to come together. To remember Akel as she was: funny, loyal, loving, forgiving and full of heart, and to celebrate the impact she had on the people around her.
