Central Neighbourhood Walks: Peterborough

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Discover & discuss inner city life: join a free walk and facilitated conversation in and around the central city neighbourhood surrounding Peterborough St. The walk is led by someone who lives in the area and has a number of locals contributing their knowledge and experience at different sites of interest.

This urban neighbourhood is a lively mix of character homes, new developments, health services, hospitality and commercial activity. Get to know this area better by meeting people who live in this part of the central city. You’ll learn about a well-established, but entirely rebuilt, co-housing development and a thriving urban agriculture initiative.

This walk is led by Dale Deavoll. Dale has been a Kilmore Street resident for 5 years and has lived in various central Christchurch locations over the past 20 years. He is a teacher, a cyclist, and an advocate for central city living and of a people-centred rebuild.

All are welcome – whether you live or work in the area or are merely curious about inner city living in Christchurch. The walk finishes with the opportunity to continue the conversation over a coffee (our shout!)

POSTPONEMENT DATE: same time (10am-12pm) on Sunday 29 November. If we need to postpone due to the weather, we'll aim to hold the walk the next day at the same time.

This walk is a tour and a conversation for everyone to share experiences of living and being in inner city neighbourhoods. It is part of a programme of walks initiated by Christchurch City Council’s Central City Residential Programme to generate and gather people’s perceptions and experiences of these neighbourhoods as the central city develops. Council staff attend the walk to learn about the neighbourhood from those who live in and use it.

Please return your ticket and do not attend if you have COVID-19 symptoms or if you need to be in isolation for any reason.

The walk is free and booking is required.
