Central Neighbourhood Walks: South East
Event description
Discover & discuss inner city life: join a free walk and facilitated conversation in the South East part of the central city led by someone who studies in the area and lives within walking distance.
The South East is an educational hub which is home to a number of students. Over time this area will change to accommodate more residents. The Canterbury Multi-Use Arena is an exciting opportunity for growth and change in this neighbourhood. Get to know this area better by meeting people who study and live in this part of the Central City and discovering the great food and grocery options and some creative reuse of industrial and heritage architecture.
This walk is led by Gwyn Guanzon, who moved to Christchurch three years ago to study architecture at Ara. Moorhouse, Madras and Barbadoes streets are his everyday places. He chose to live on this side of the city so he can simply walk to school or the grocery store. He finds the central city the perfect place for walking. It is very convenient as everything is close by and he has never regretted moving here.
All are welcome – whether you live or work in the area or are merely curious about inner city living in Christchurch. The walk finishes with the opportunity to continue the conversation over a coffee (our shout!)
This walk is a tour and a conversation for everyone to share experiences of living and being in inner city neighbourhoods. It is part of a programme of walks initiated by Christchurch City Council’s Central City Residential Programme to generate and gather people’s perceptions and experiences of these neighbourhoods as the central city develops. Council staff attend the walk to learn about the neighbourhood from those who live in and use it.
Please return your ticket and do not attend if you have COVID-19 symptoms or if you need to be in isolation for any reason.
The walk is free and booking is required.
