Central Neighbourhood Walks: Victoria
Event description
Discover & discuss inner city life: join a free walk and facilitated conversation in the Victoria St area led by a local resident that takes you from major green spaces to private multi-use developments to a major commercial and shopping street.
This lively neighbourhood has both quiet residential streets as well as a nightlife hotspot. Get to know this area better by meeting people who live in the part of the central city around Victoria St and discover the benefits and challenges of living in this busy and popular part of the city.
This walk is led by Tiria Stewart (Ngā Puhi). Tiria has lived in the central city for 20 years, where she has raised her daughter. One of the many and still current highlights for them is meeting their four-legged friend and neighbour Mouse (a small dog), who has made such a difference in being a conduit to converse with others. Tiria enjoys the evolving sounds and sights of the central city and the experience of being able to walk to all her favourite places.
All are welcome – whether you live or work in the area or are merely curious about inner city living in Christchurch. The walk finishes with the opportunity to continue the conversation over a coffee (our shout!)
This walk is a tour and a conversation for everyone to share experiences of living and being in inner city neighbourhoods. It is part of a programme of walks initiated by Christchurch City Council’s Central City Residential Programme to generate and gather people’s perceptions and experiences of these neighbourhoods as the central city develops. Council staff attend the walk to learn about the neighbourhood from those who live in and use it.
We have organised this walk in accordance with the physical distancing requirements of COVID-19 Alert Level 2. The walk only has space for 15 attendees, to allow physical distancing between strangers to be observed. Please return your ticket and do not attend if you have COVID-19 symptoms or if you need to be in isolation for any reason.
The walk is free and booking is required.
Please note: Mouse the dog will be attending this walk. Mouse is a very small dog, we hope this won't hinder your attendance.
