CENTRAL OTAGO | A REGION OF CONTRASTS
Exploring the differences, similarities and signatures of place
This October, Central Otago wineries are coming to Australia for PURE POURS 2026. We’re inviting trade guests to join us for a two-hour, semi-blind tasting led by the winemakers, focused on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the 2022 vintage.
Central Otago may be one wine region, but it is far from one-dimensional. From Bannockburn to Bendigo, Lowburn to Gibbston, its vineyards span a striking range of climates, elevations, aspects and growing conditions.
But how clearly can we taste those differences? And where do the boundaries between place, vintage, vine and winemaking begin to blur?
Using a selection of 2022 wines, we’ll taste across different parts of the region and explore where similarities emerge, where differences become apparent, and how much can be attributed to place, versus vintage, vineyard and winemaking.
We invite you to challenge your assumptions and explore the relationship between place and expression.
This is a small-format tasting for guests who want to dig a little deeper into Central Otago and the factors that shape its wines.
Presenters: Dave Sutton (Te Kano) and Anika Willner (Coal Pit)
This event is exclusively for the wine trade.
