Event description

Please join us for the CERC (Creative Ecologies Research Cluster) Forum at the UniSC Art Gallery to celebrate the latest exhibition, hear from researchers working around the theme of reciprocity, and preview the program for ANAT SPECTRA, hosted at UniSC in October 2025.

Presented by UniSC Art Gallery and ANAT, Reciprocity brings together Australian artists working at the intersections of art, science, and technology to explore the ethics and potential of reciprocal exchange.

In research and creative practice, reciprocity has been theorised as a dynamic model of mutual benefit, one that shifts from extractive or hierarchical modes towards collaboration grounded in care, respect, trust, and shared agency. The reciprocity model is a space where all participants, human and more-than-human, thrive through interaction. Collectively, the works in this exhibition ask how reciprocity, conceptually, materially, and as a lived experience, might guide us toward more sustainable and ethical futures.

Reciprocity underpins the Creative Ecologies Research Cluster, and this forum features researchers speaking to the idea of reciprocity in their practice. Dr Tricia King will introduce the latest work from the Ageing Well Creative Lab, a fortnightly program that brings older adults together to explore cutting-edge creative technologies on campus that will feature in the ANAT SPECTRA program.

Professor Victoria Traynor, a gerontological researcher leading the Healthy Ageing Research Cluster at UniSC, will speak about how reciprocity can help reimagine person-centred care in Australia. Melissa DeLaney, CEO of ANAT, will introduce the SPECTRA theme grounded in care, ethical collaborations, and the pursuit of meaningful exchange in creative practice. Dr Leah Barclay will close with a preview of the SPECTRA program and a floor talk in the Reciprocity exhibition.

CERC Forum with UniSC Art Gallery

The CERC Forum, held quarterly in collaboration with the UniSC Art Gallery and Creative Ecologies Research Cluster, creates an engaging platform for connection, knowledge exchange, and inspiration. These dynamic evening events feature short research presentations from UniSC established and emerging researchers along with guest speakers exploring a diversity of current research themes.

The Forum provides a platform to connect and showcase innovative works-in-progress that demonstrate creative research methodologies in action, inspiring new possibilities for collaboration. The events are open to researchers, students, community members, and industry partners, expanding research networks and cross-pollinating ideas across the diverse communities of practice forming around CERC (Creative Ecologies Research Cluster).
