Thu, 8 Oct, 4pm - 6pm AEDT

Description

Did you know the average Australian purchases 27kgs of textile per year and throws out 23kg? This equates to 300,000 tonnes of clothing sent to landfill each year in Australia alone. Australia is the second biggest textile consumer in the world and the fashion industry is one of the highest polluting industries, responsible for 10% of global CO2 emissions.

Upparel is Australia's most trusted, transparent and traceable textile recovery and recycling company. Driven by a vision to eradicate textile waste, they are pioneering change through innovation - converting waste into a valuable, circular resource through entirely on-shore solutions.

Join us after school at Upparel in Cranbournes West and discover how they turn the linear fashion economy into a circular one and how your school can get involved.

What else to expect:

  • A tour of Upparels Innovation Hub showcasing the different types of products that can be made from recycled textile waste.

  • Learn about the process of recycling textiles and the different streams and down streams.

  • Meet “Violet” Upparel’s textile recycling machine, one of a kind in Australia.

  • Get to see the mountains of textiles getting ready for processing.

  • A demonstration on how textiles can be used as an alternative to corflute.

  • An introduction to CERES/ResourceSmart Schools.
