Event description

Date: Friday, June 6 (9:00 am - 3:00 pm)

Location: Fall Creek Falls near Carson, WA

Description: Invasive plant species thrive in disturbed areas. But not if we have anything to say about it! Join us for an Early Detection, Rapid Response (EDRR) survey near Fall Creek Falls in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Areas near the trailhead were recently thinned, which can create opportunities for invasives to spread in this high use area.

We will use iPads to collect data on invasive species along Forest Road 3062 and adjacent harvest units. We will hand pull any small infestations and report larger infestations to be treated later.

Work Conditions: We will be walking on gravel roads and off-road in harvest units. The terrain in harvest units is uneven and requires navigating over slash and other obstacles. We expect to walk up to 2 miles one-way during our survey. We encourage everyone to work at a comfortable pace.

Gear: Please bring sturdy, close-toed shoes, long sleeves and pants, appropriate layers for the weather, and a day pack with enough food and water for the day.

CFC will provide iPads, gloves, trashbags, and any other tools we might need.

Transportation and Vehicle Access: Please contact us at trips@cascadeforest.org if transportation is a barrier to participation. We can arrange carpools if necessary. Our work site is located on gravel roads 3 miles from the nearest paved road.
