We're pleased to welcome Erin Ebborn from Portia Law, speaking on the Harmful Digital Communications Act and its growing relevance across our sector. We are also pleased to have New Zealand Police joining the kōrero to share what they are seeing on the ground, including emerging trends, current challenges, and the realities of responding to digital harm and online offending. Alongside valuable learning opportunities, the hui provides an opportunity to connect, strengthen relationships, and collaborate with others across our sector.
As online harm, stalking, image-based abuse, harassment, coercive control, artificial intelligence, and cyber safety continue to intersect with family violence and wellbeing, understanding the Harmful Digital Communications Act and how it applies in practice is becoming increasingly important.

Lineup
Erin Ebborn
Erin Ebborn is a Christchurch-based lawyer with Portia Law. She works across media, defamation, and digital communications law, with a particular focus on the Harmful Digital Communications Act and responding to online harm, harassment, and image-based abuse. Erin is known for making complex legal areas practical and accessible, helping organisations and practitioners better understand legal pathways, responsibilities, and safer responses in the digital space.
Emma Humphrey
Emma is a technologist born and raised in Christchurch. She is a consultant with a physics and mathematical background who has spent the last decade working overseas. She spent five years working for the UK Home Office and police, focusing on critical issues at the intersection of technology and violence against women and girls. Her background includes deepfake detection in CSAM-related fields, as well as implementing digital tools and improving data maturity for sexual assault charities. Currently, Emma is working with AI Safety ANZ to deliver New Zealand's inaugural AI Safety Conference, driving critical actions to protect New Zealanders from the risks of dual-use technologies.
