Join Campbelltown Arts Centre and the Campbelltown Koshigaya Sister City Association in a free, all ages paper lantern making workshop in the lead up to the 2023 FISHERS KIDS - Yomise 夜店celebration that will be held on Saturday 4th November, 5-9pm.

The Japanese paper lantern originated during the Muromachi era round 1336 and is called Chōchin, ‘Chō’ meaning to hang, and ‘chin’ meaning light. Before electricity, Chōchin’s were held by travellers light their paths by night. Today Bon Chochin are used to decorate restaurants and festivals and are also hung outside houses to welcome home the spirits of each family’s ancestors.

During the workshop, Japanese educator Miki Orlandini will teach you to make a paper lantern, to be illuminated with an LED tea light. Participants will create two lanterns, one to take home and one to contribute to a lantern installation that will feature at FISHERS KIDS - Yomise 夜店.

Held in the Tea House with the beautiful backdrop of the Japanese Gardens. It is not to be missed. Pack a lunch and spend the day. Tickets are limited.
