Challah Bake for Dov
Event description
Challah is the braided loaf of bread which Jews traditionally eat on the Sabbath and festivals (it is customary to include and bless 2 loaves during the meal). Making challah is a traditional mitzvah (good deed) in Judaism, and group challah bakes (such as the one we’ve organised for Dov) help to bring communities together, feed the participants (by giving them challah to take home to their families) as well as making many more loaves of love to be shared with friends and the needy.
The plan will be for each participant to leave with 2 loaves they braided themselves – 1 to keep and 1 they’ll be encouraged to give away – to a friend, a neighbour, someone in need of food, or anyone else they choose). Extra challahs will be baked which will be taken to St Lucy’s (Dov's former school) and NAPA (one of Dov's former therapy centres) the next day to share with others who were unable to join us.
This event is for both adults and children. In honour of Dov, please wear some yellow on the night, as that was his favourite colour.
Note: Due to the overwhelming support of this challah bake, we will be holding most of the event in the JEMS synagogue (in the same building). There is level access from the street.
