Understanding Challenging Behaviour with Michelle Maunder Occupational Therapist
Event description
Understanding Challenging Behaviours
with Michelle Maunder Occupational Therapist, SEED Paediatric Services
Educators are increasingly experiencing disruptions in their classroom ranging from emotional outbursts, disengagement and students walking out. This workshop will provide evidenced based information aiming to equip educators with the understanding and strategies they need to break the cycle.
Topics covered will include regulation / dysregulation through the lens of Polyvagal Theory; frameworks for responding to dysregulation; strategies to manage challenging behaviours in the moment and afterwards; as well as proactive approaches to avoid these situations. When we understand the role the nervous system plays in managing regulation and dysregulation, we are better positioned to avoid challenging behaviours and to support students to move towards building resilience, flexibility, social emotional skills that enable them to reach their potential.
Michelle aims to make the complex, simple, fun, interesting and memorable.
