Event description

Time to get involved! Ella is going to take you through a mock council meeting to demystify the inner workings of councils and help you get started on making a difference in your community.

Ella is the Deputy Mayor at the Berri Barmera Council, and is keen to see more young people in the Riverland participate in community decision making.  She started her career in local government when she was 16, and currently works for the District Council of Loxton Waikerie. Her perspective on the workings of local councils across the Riverland from both staff and elected member perspective makes her a unique resource for young people to learn how they can make a difference in their local community.

*This is one of the pieces that make up the Symposium mini-festival puzzle.*

Symposium is a community-based and locally driven initiative to nurture a culture of skills and knowledge-sharing for local young people. The festival strives to build a foundation of small business skills, creative skills and life skills through means of live workshops. For more information and background on Symposium and where it began.

Symposium is a project of Part of Things, jointly delivered with the Berri Barmera Council and Barmera Central and supported by District Council of Loxton Waikerie and Renmark Paringa Council. This project has received funding from the FRRR ABC Heywire Youth Innovation Grants Program, and the Department of Human Services Youth-led COVID-19 Recovery Grants and administered by the Local Government Association of South Australia.
