    If you're a beginner or a bit of a doodler who wants to sharpen your pencil skills - this drawing course is a great opportunity to learn with a small group in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. This Chalk Pastel and Charcoal Drawing course will show you that anyone can draw!

    What will be covered in this course?
    In this Charcoal and Pastel course, you will learn how to observe objects for drawing and be taught how to simplify different forms and structures with proportion and composition. We will look at how we can create an illusion of space by applying negative space and perspective and explore how to draw realistically.
    In the first couple of weeks we will cover the basic elements of art and fundamental techniques/concepts. For the rest of the course we will explore portraiture, landscape, Still life, animal sketching and other areas where you will complete an artwork each lesson.

    By the end of this course students will: 

    With many exercises, demonstrations, handouts and discussions throughout this course you will have a sound understanding about the core concepts of drawing including line, tone, form, perspective, and proportion.
    This course is suitable for students to enrol in more than once as each lesson is designed to be suitable for all ability levels. By continuing this course for another term you will be able to build on your knowledge from the previous term and continue to create wonderful unique artworks. By the end of this course you will have a number of completed artworks you will be proud to send straight to the pool room!

    ABOUT THE TUTOR

    Jess is a professional artist, face painter and published author. She has exhibited and sold her works both locally and internationally. She studied a Bachelor of Fine Art and has a Diploma of Visual Arts at Tafe NSW. 
    She has been working with children and teaching  the arts for over 5 years. She founded Woolgoolga Art School in 2023, is a professional face painter on the weekends and runs private Paint & Sip parties. 
    In her personal arts practise she primarily works with acrylic paints, graphite, charcoal & pastels, depicting the human form. 
    As a mental health advocate, Jess is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of art making. She has a certificate in Art Therapy and her approach to teaching is a mixture of technical tuition, encouraging creative experimentation and building self esteem. 
    Her classes focus on establishing the foundations of art theory and then applying that knowledge to artworks.
