FOLK LEGEND-SONGWRITER & RECORDING ARTIST

Charlie Maguire

Roots Cellar welcomes for the first time Folk Performer Charlie Maguire, whose songwriting career started on Minneapolis’ West Bank and spans the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.

Called “A legend in the Midwest” by the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Maguire songs have taken him far and wide, to Malta and Germany as a Fulbright Performer for the U.S. Department of State; as “The Singing Ranger” for the National Park Service on the Mississippi River; as a Minnesota Bush Artist Fellow; all reflecting his perceptive songwriting craft on an infinite number of subjects like “Fall is Here”, “Play Us A Waltz”, “Talking Home Improvement”, and “Great Mississippi” and putting them squarely into the American Folk Song Bag.

Pete Seeger said; “Your songs are damn good and so are you.”
Lee Hays on Charlie’s first album said; “He rides herd on an audience like Woody Guthrie did.”
Diane Sawyer on GOOD MORNING AMERICA remarked after hearing Charlie—“He can sing! I mean really sing!”
Jon Bream of the STAR TRIBUNE wrote; "Unless Bob Dylan crashed the party you could not find a more apropos performer.”

A 2024-50th Year Anniversary-Veteran of “A Prairie Home Companion” Charlie has never stopped writing and recording, and has a tremendous repertoire bursting with new songs that will take the listener from the Great Lakes, to the Great Plains--as a self-described “Acoustic Journalist” on ALMANAC-TPT—as a compelling story-teller with humor & Emmy award-winning soaring melodies-ON THE ROAD WITH JASON DAVIS-KSTP-TV, on stage with acoustic guitar and harmonica--Charlie Maguire has long been part of the fabric of the American Folk Scene and beyond. Don’t miss this rare in-town show.

“Show is magnificent, touching, and so timely.” -Mary Tjosvold/Crooners
