Event description

Charlotte Le Lievre and band celebrate the release of their debut vinyl LP Songs from the Barrier Line. Recorded live to tape at Sound Recordings near Castlemaine, the body of 10 original songs take listeners on a journey, as Le Lievre grapples with the existential nature of death and dying, the processing of grief and the healing nature of connection to the unique outback town of Broken Hill, where Le Lievre spent significant time living and creating. The record gives a powerful nod to both classic country and folk traditions, showcasing Le Lievre’s genre-defiant style. The arrangements of the songs draw upon the diverse currents of country music to create sonic mountains and valleys that mirror the outback landscapes of Le Lievre’s mind. Le Lievre and band will perform the record from start to finish and share intimate and heartwarming stories about the songs' creation. Le Lievre will be joined by Hana & Jessie-Lee (Duo) and The Brakes, who will kick off the evening with dynamic support sets.

Charlotte Le Lievre: Described by Dave Ruby Howe from Triple J as 'authentic and tear-soaked alt-country', Charlotte Le Lievre is renowned for moving audiences with her deeply emotive lyrics and live performances. Drawing on the diverse currents of country music, Le Lievre weaves songs that traverse experiences of grief and outback landscapes. Her voice and songs are equal parts heart wrenching and uplifting, hailing from a vintage era of smoke-filled honky tonk bars or late-night fireside jam sessions.

Hana & Jessie-Lee: Sewing twang, lyrical wit and late-night musings into a captivating country-soul heart, Hana and Jessie-Lee craft sauntering, hook-laden tapestries drenched in rock-and-roll swagger.

The Brakes: The Brakes play good Rock n Roll - blending the twang of country music's mainstays, and with their heart on sleeve honesty, The Brakes brand of rock n roll tips the hat to the greats of years gone by, with one foot firmly on the gas. Roll down the window, turn up the dial, The Brakes are Friday knock-off music.
