Everywhere you look records are being broken this year. In Europe, North America, Canada, records are being smashed for extreme heat, wildfires, bushfires, drought... the list goes on. This is climate change. And it doesn’t look good. But there is hope and there are solutions. Green Infrastructure (GI) is one of those solutions.

What is Green Infrastructure? GI are strategically planned networks of natural and semi-natural areas in urban and regional settlements providing environmental, social and economic benefits to society. Green roofs, green walls, parks and public spaces.

GI can be public or privately owned. Many of our urban environmental and social problems require strategies and interventions that are multidisciplinary and collaborative; involving a broad range of stakeholders; particularly, community organisations, property owners and the private sector. GI provides a framework for delivering such benefits to society. This presentation highlights some of the innovative research and development in GI technologies undertaken at UTS, from Best Practice Guidance Notes for professional bodies, to Wallbots, using VR technology, to the social and community benefits of rooftop gardening in the Cross.

We'll show how UTS Health, Engineering, Horticulture, Mechatronics, Property and Construction academics have worked together; researching, sharing knowledge and expertise to push the knowledge boundaries and help enable more GI in our towns and cities.
