"If I were to write a Requiem, Cherubini's would be my only model" - Ludwig van Beethoven

Cherubini's Requiem in C Minor was commissioned by King Louis XVIII of France in 1816 for a memorial service to commemorate the anniversary of the executions of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

It was highly regarded by many of his contemporaries, including Schumann, who praised it as being "without equal in the world" and was performed at Beethoven's funeral.

We will also be performing short choral works by Mozart, including:

Che del ciel
Placido e il mar
Laudate Dominum
Veni Sancte Spiritus
Ave verum corpus

Soprano Soloist: Yvonne Lloyd

Musical Director: Ruth Kerr

Accompanist: Claire Williams
