Chess Tournament at Kryal Castle (Secondary) 2025

North Star Chess Zonal Tournament (Secondary) at Kryal Castle – 27th March 2025

Thank you for volunteering to represent Alphington Grammar School (AGS) at the North Star Chess Zonal Tournament at Kryal Castle on 17th April 2024. This event is for Secondary Students ONLY. 

The event will run from 9:30am to 2:00pm. A bus will be arranged to transport participating students from Alphington Grammar to the venue and return us to school afterwards. The bus will leave AGS at 7:45am sharp from Lucerne Cresent. We will not wait for late arrivals so please ensure you are on time. We will be back at school by approximately 3:45pm.

Students to wear regular summer uniform on the day. Last time we went to Kryal castle it was very cold inside, so I recommend students pack warm clothes just in case. Each student will need to bring all food and drink for the day including their lunch, snacks, and a water bottle. Students may also wish to bring a small amount of money as last time we went there was a lollie shop operating at the castle. 

The cost will be $25 per student, plus booking fee. 

Format of the tournament as follows:

• Individual based tournament.
• Every student plays 7 games against players of similar skill, regardless of how many games they win or lose (Swiss pairing method).
• Students experience proper tournament rules.
• Gold/Silver/Bronze medals awarded to various grade/year level categories.
• "Star of the tournament" trophy for top scorer of the day.
• Table prizes/giveaways.
• Northern Star Chess State Final or Semi-final qualifications announced at the end of tournament based on results for the day.
