Event description

Join us at CHICC for an engaging workshop to dive into the intricate landscape of risk, insurance and liability in our rapidly evolving Australian digital and connected health sector.

Designed for early stage healthtech companies, this session will empower participants with a holistic approach to risk management and provide the essential knowledge, tools and actionable advice needed to strategically transfer risk across every facet of business. Cyber and AI coverage considerations will be examined, as well as requirements for Directors and Officers (D&O), Professional Indemnity (PI), product liability and specialised insurance.

Gain practical insights from Marsh insurance experts Charlie Biddulph and Samir Sofat as they break down risk management essentials for healthtech startups, and hear firsthand from Dr Anushi Rajapaksa, founder of Victorian startup Misti, on navigating insurance in the real world.

By understanding the risks at play and solutions available, participants will be able to better safeguard their companies, optimise stakeholder protection and strengthen sustainable growth in this innovative and fast-paced industry.

What we’ll unpack:

  • Strategic risk management – Tools, timelines and triggers
  • Startup milestones – Insurance in the first 1-3 years of business
  • Identifying common vs specific risks and coverage
  • Insurance limits and recommended coverage for common and specific risks
  • Capital raising and pre-revenue considerations – Insurance preparations for fundraising
  • Evaluating counterparty demands – Are requested insurance limits reasonable?
  • Going global – Assessing risk when engaging abroad

Misti's mission is to enable the inhalation of emerging biological medicines, including vaccines, in the comfort of home, aiming to protect the most vulnerable—children and older adults—from respiratory infections. She was named “Young Biomedical Engineer of the Year in 2010” by AMEC-EPSM powered by Engineers Australia.

Specialising in leading international interdisciplinary research projects, Dr. Anushi has been instrumental in innovative clinical studies and the invention of several newborn technologies. Her expertise extends to successful licencing deals, commercially driven research, strategy development, and managing regulatory approval of groundbreaking respiratory assets.
