What to expect

Do you want to enhance your ability to recognise child abuse risks and confidently apply Victoria’s child safety legislation in practice?

Looking to embed Victoria’s Child Safe Standards across organisational policies, systems and daily operations?

Want to learn ways to champion a proactive, empowering Child Safe culture organisation‑wide?

The 2‑day Child Safe Champions course builds practical knowledge and confidence in applying the Victorian Child Safe Standards and creating environments where children and young people are safe, empowered and supported. It’s hands‑on and interactive, with activities, real‑life examples and group discussions to help everyone understand how the Victorian Child Safe Standards work in everyday situations.

When

• Day 1 - Tuesday 27 October, 9:30am – 4:30pm, and 

• Day 2 - Wednesday 28 October, 9:30am – 4:30pm 

Each spot registered will include a ticket to Day 1 and Day 2 - with catering provided.

*Please note this is a two-part training, with attendance on both days required.

• Build an understanding of the Victorian child safety context

• Learn about child abuse, risk and relevant legislation

• Understand what defines a Child Safe organisation

• Gain an understanding of the usual responsibilities of a Child Safety Officer

• Explore how to apply the Victorian Child Safe Standards in everyday practice

• Learn when and how to report concerns about child abuse

• Develop knowledge of child abuse, indicators and impacts

• Gain an understanding of trauma and how child abuse affects the developing brain

• Learn how to build a child safe culture that promotes the empowerment of children and young people in your organisation

Throughout the training we have regularly scheduled breaks and provide image descriptions of visuals used. If you require extra support to attend the session, we can book in Auslan interpreters.   

The space is wheelchair accessible, with access to an accessible gender-neutral bathroom. More information on venue accessibility will be provided closer to the event.

Our work takes place through the lands of the Aboriginal nations within Victoria and we pay our respects to their Elders past and present. Bunjil’s lore states that those who walk on this land must care for the Country and waterways as well as care for the children and young people.
