    Event description

    Childhood Dementia Information Session

Childhood dementia affects 1 in 2800 babies born in Australia – more than better known conditions like cystic fibrosis. Sadly, around 75% have a life expectancy of under 18. They and their families face unique and complex challenges.

Childhood Dementia Initiative invites you to join Head of Programs, Gail Hilton for this two-hour introductory session on childhood dementia. You’ll be equipped with key statistics and a broad understanding of the causes, symptoms and impacts of childhood dementia. Professor Kim Hemsley, Head of the Childhood Dementia Research Group at Flinders University will share insights on the current research landscape for childhood dementia.

This free session is ideal for health professionals and social care workers, researchers, parents and policy makers who would like to gain a better understanding of this condition.

The resources shared in this session were developed with funding from the Australian Government.

Provisions will be made for social distancing and we ask attendees to wear masks.

Not in Adelaide but want to attend an information session? Tell us where you are and we’ll let you know when we have an event near you: https://www.childhooddementia.org/news/information-sessions-roll-out-nationally

    About the Childhood Dementia Initiative:

The Childhood Dementia Initiative is a for-purpose organisation, established in 2020 and led by Megan Donnell in response to the horrifying and compelling results of a study looking at the incidence and cost to the economy of childhood dementia in Australia. The Childhood Dementia Initiative has three priorities:

    - Raise awareness

    - Accelerate therapeutic development

    - Improve care and quality of life
