China Beyond the Tourist Map: An Interactive City Challenge

An informal and interactive quiz-style event exploring Chinese cities through everyday images, food, language, local expressions and cultural clues.

Rather than focusing on well-known landmarks, participants will be invited to identify different Chinese cities through less obvious features, such as street scenes, regional foods, public transport, local nicknames and aspects of daily life. The activity will encourage participants to think about how cities are experienced, recognised and remembered beyond their major tourist attractions.

The event will be open to students from all language backgrounds. Participants will be able to engage in either English or Chinese, and no prior knowledge of Chinese language or culture will be required. The activity is intended to be accessible to both Chinese-speaking students and students who are interested in learning more about China.
