Qin Xiao Tang started the first Chinese Noodle Restaurant in Chinatown more than 30 years ago. After opening 12 restaurants over three decades, “Grapes on the roof” has become a Sydney icon with its signature hand-pulled noodles, handmade dumplings and THAT braised eggplant.

Join Soul of Chinatown from 6-8pm on Tuesday 30 May for the first event in its Chinatown Sessions series: ‘An evening with Mr Qin’. Mr Qin will be playing three songs on his violin for guests - joined by local cellist Zenith Chae. Guests will be treated to a set menu of noodles, dumplings, stir fried dishes and more.

Mr Qin, a Urumqi native in China’s Xinjiang region, taught himself how to play the violin, and played in his local orchestra before immigrating to Australia. You’ll often find him serenading diners when he’s not busy cooking.

The menu will include:

Steamed xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings)
Pork and chive fried dumplings
Stir fried handmade noodles
Sweet and crispy shredded beef
Soy braised eggplant
Shiitake mushroom and Chinese greens

Unfortunately we are unable to cater for any dietary restrictions.

ABOUT SOUL OF CHINATOWN

Soul of Chinatown is a community group that preserves the culture, history and tradition of Sydney’s Chinatown and its community, but also looks to the future. Founded by Hayden Wong, Kevin Cheng and Peter Wong in 2021, Soul of Chinatown aims to inspire and foster positive change in Chinatown through advocacy, community, events and storytelling. The group created its Rice Fund during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 to support the vulnerable and disadvantaged - especially elderly Chinese-Australians that rely on Chinatown but who have faced increasing isolation.
