Chisholm St is a live performance space on Wadawurrung country, Ballarat. We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and recognise that their sovereignty was never ceded.

Hosted by Bronwyn Blaiklock, Chisholm St is an intimate foray into fascinating corners of classical music. Launched in March 2021, this diverse series of concerts by regional musicians and spoken word performers gives you a rare glimpse into creative music-making, up close and personal.

Poet, Megan J Riedl, joins pianist, Bronwyn Blaiklock to perform a thin slice of Australian works, including compositions by Percy Grainger, Amadis Lacheta, Peter Sculthorpe, plus Megan's own original award-winning poetry.

Megan J Riedl

Megan is a purveyor of words for the page and the stage. She feels out loud; fearlessly giving a voice to the secret stories we tell ourselves and creates connections through sharing the messy, human experiences that often go unspoken. An Australian Poetry Slam State Finalist for the past two years, Megan has featured at Mother Tongue, Wordcraft and MSW Fresh Voices. She has been commissioned as part of the City of Ballarat’s creative COVID response, and created poetic calls to action for the Ballarat Greens and Let’s Talk Peace, Ballarat. Megan has playwriting and directing credits with the community and independent theatre companies across the state. She lives on stolen Wadawurrung land in Ballarat, VIC with her two children.

Bronwyn Blaiklock

Director of the Chisholm St. concert series, Bronwyn studied piano at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, alongside language and psychology studies. She is a pianist and poet who has been active in the creative arts for over 25 years across three states and has worked as an artistic director, pianist, editor, poet, writer, academic advisor, adjudicator, and music teacher.

The venue

Seating
Bespoke reupholstered deck chairs and lounge suite awaits you, however, be sure to dress warmly as seating extends to an external covered deck and this is Ballarat, after all. During the winter months, concerts are held indoors. The performance space cannot be seen from the street, however, the venue is registered with APRA/AMCOS for live performances (https://www.apraamcos.com.au/).

Children
Children who are 16 years and under are free to attend, although we ask that paid ticket-holders get priority of seating. Please register them when you book so we can be prepared. Children are welcome to enjoy the garden and cubby house during daytime performances.

Refreshments
You are invited to join the performers for refreshments afterwards. This includes wine, cheese, gluten-friendly snacks, light drinks, tea and coffee at no extra charge. You are welcome to bring a bottle of your favourite beverage.

Covid-19
Please do not attend if you are unwell. Tickets can be swapped to other concert series if you are unable to attend due to illness. Please follow covid-19 quarantine regulations. Attendees at Chisholm St performances are required to be double-vaccinated and to show their certificate upon arrival. Please use the hand-sanitiser supplied at the point of entry.

Please wear masks if your household members have covid-19. Masks do not need to be worn if you are seated outside on the deck. Please maintain social distancing where possible.
