Event description

Chisholm St is a live performance space on Wadawurrung country, Ballarat. We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and recognise that their sovereignty was never ceded.

Hosted by Bronwyn Blaiklock, Chisholm St is an intimate foray into fascinating corners of classical music. Launched in March 2021, this diverse series of concerts by regional musicians and spoken word performers gives you a rare glimpse into creative music-making, up close and personal.

Chisholm St: Originals vs. Covers on 15 & 16 July.

Amie Brûlée and Geoff McArthur present a charming blend of original songs and old favourites from days gone by with heart-warming harmonies and vintage swing. Accompanied by the plush, round sound of acoustic double bass and guitar, their music is sure to make you tap your toes and put a smile in your heart. At Chisholm St., they will reveal to you the process of selecting, arranging, and performing the songs.

If you bought a ticket to a session in April, your ticket will get you a seat at the July sessions as follows:

  • Tickets from Friday 22 April will transfer to Friday15 July, 6 pm
  • Tickets from Sunday 24 April will transfer to Saturday 16 July, 6 pm
The performers
Amie Brûlée

Amie sings French and Spanish songs, old jazz, old time and other tunes that take her fancy. With enchanting stories and humorous anecdotes between songs, she takes you on a journey to other places, times and worlds. Her musical adventures and influences range from classical to jazz, cabaret, blues, tango and folk (just to name a few), and she loves nothing more than finding a new way to interpret an old song. She usually sings and plays piano, but was recently spotted carrying a ukulele through Paris, while other eyewitness accounts list her playing double bass in a country pub and singing in a city club.

Geoff McArthur

Geoff is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has turned his hand to many musical styles over the years including blues, folk, jazz, swing, country, and traditional Irish music. A number of his songs have now been recorded by other performers and he has received awards for his writing. He is an experienced accompanist on guitar, having performed with numerous vocalists and instrumentalists for many years. He also plays mandolin and banjo. A lifelong Ballarat resident, in recent years Geoff has turned to his hometown - its history, people, and idiosyncrasies as inspiration for his songwriting.
