Christ Church Organ Recital
Event description
Christ Church Wayville's Pogson pipe organ was installed in 1983, and has enriched the worship and provided 40 years of problem-free service, allowing Christ Church to offer a successful fusion of the contemporary and traditional, with frequent use of both organ and piano music.
To celebrate this 40th year anniversary, and affirm the continued significance of organ music in worship, Christ Church is establishing an organ scholarship. Many worship centres struggle to attract properly trained and available organists who have the required skills to maintain appropriate standards when required. Tuition and materials are expensive and offsetting some of these costs through this scholarship would provide a small but significant contribution towards supporting the development and maintenance of organ use within worship, not necessarily just at Christ Church, but more generally for future generations and the wider community.
Our vision is that the scholarship can be provided on an annual basis and in perpetuity. To achieve this, we estimate the initial capital amount to establish the scholarship would be in the order of $20,000.
This initiative to establish the organ scholarship was proposed by our esteemed and valued long-term musician, David Gigger, who will present an organ recital to support and celebrate the launch of the scholarship fund.
David's programme will include Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C BWV 564 by JSBach, Prelude, Fugue and Variation by Cesar Franck and three short pieces from Australian Christmas Suite for Organ by Robert Ampt. There will also be a young guest flautist playing works by Mouquet and John Rutter.
We ask for your strong support for both this event and the establishment of the scholarship fund.
