St Barnabas Anglican church in Fendalton is offering two free employment seminars for migrants.

Day 1 Saturday 29 May
1.00 – 1.10 Welcome and opening
1.10 – 1.50 A panel of migrants will tell of their journey to employment in Aotearoa
2.00 – 2.50 Writing a CV
Karen Slee, a career coach/facilitator will show you how to write a professional and
effective CV considered “best practice” in Aotearoa New Zealand.
3.00 – 3.30 Afternoon tea
3.30 – 4.10 Employment Rights
David Beck and Geoff Bevan are employment law practitioners. They will cover
minimum legal rights, employment agreements, negotiating, disclosure, trial periods
and where to get advice.
4.30 – 5.10 Visa issues for Migrants
Keshava Senghan is employed as a Migrant and Ethnic Community Support person.
He will answer questions about the skilled migrant visa, work to residence visa,
Family Residence visa, Student/Work/Visitor visa, Business/Entrepreneur visa,
Health and character waiver, employer accreditation and any Australia visa services.

Day 2 Saturday June 12
1.00 – 1.40 Volunteer Canterbury in the hall.
Volunteering is a good way to gain experience in New Zealand while job seeking.
You will learn about when and where you can volunteer in Christchurch
1.00 – 1.40 Dress for Success – Women only - Tui Room (opposite the hall)
Dress for Success will show you suitable clothing for job searching. Women who
need this support can have a free dressing appointment.
2.00 – 2.40 IT in the Workplace
Ian Wells is an immigrant to New Zealand and has worked in the tech industry for
Local and multinational corporations specialising in software quality. He is now
retired and enjoys helping others to enter and flourish in the NZ tech workforce.
3. 00 – 3.30 Afternoon tea in the hall
4.00 – 4.40 Setting up a small business
Tony Koller is an accountant with many years experience in financial services,
budgeting and planning business structures to help growing a business.
Tony will talk about reaching long term business goals and small business issues.
5.00 – 5.10 Closing ceremony
