Event description

The Seminary of the 3rd Age theme for 2022 is Faith and Religion relating to the present age. In the March series of seminars, we examine The Relationship between Religion and Culture. Paul Goh will present tonight on the topic Christianity in a global and post-Christian world.

Christianity is dying out? This past Sunday it is possible that more Christians attended church in China than in all of so-called “Christian Europe.” Christianity is no longer an exclusive or even primarily Western phenomenon. The centre of Christianity has shifted from Europe to the global South. While Christianity recedes in its old heartlands, it thrives apace in Africa, Asia and Pacific Islands. How has South Australian Christian Community become a microcosm of World Christianity? Who are rising “Nones” and “the spiritual but not religious”? Shall Pentecostals and the Fundamentalist win? Is There a Future for Progressive Christianity?

Paul Goh is the Justice and Multi and Cross-Cultural Officer for the UCA Synod in S.A. He holds a PhD in practical theology from Boston University School of Theology and has taught at Theological Colleges in Sydney and Melbourne. Originally ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Korea Paul is now a Uniting Church minister having served Anglo, Korean and Fijian congregations in Melbourne. He is on the Executive of the Australian Association of Mission Studies and is a member of several scholarly Associations in the fields of missiology and intercultural theology.
