The Charleston Queer Youth Prom

It is with the utmost delight and profound honor that we extend our sincerest greetings to you and invite you to this year’s Charleston Youth Queer Prom!

The felicity derived from this fortuitous encounter transcends mere pleasantries; indeed it is a momentous occasion, a juncture where our paths converge in grand tapestry of queer existence as we embark upon this regal journey of shared pride, camaraderie, and queer joy. This year's event will feature exciting activation stations, unique photo opportunities, a youth talent show, and a night of dancing to your favorite songs with DJ Lanatron. 

The Charleston Youth Queer Prom IS that one magical night of the year for middle and highschool students to dance, celebrate, and build community free from anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination. The event is presented by We Are Family, South Carolina’s oldest LGBTQ+ youth serving organization.

Know before you go:

• This year’s Queer Youth Prom theme is Gothic Steampunk Affair.
• This event is free to attend and open to ALL current middle and high school students as well as homeschooled students. Straight allies are welcome to attend! Attendees can bring whomever they want as long as they are also currently enrolled in middle or high school.
• Attendees can come dressed in their prom best, cosplay, on theme costume, or even in jeans and a nice shirt.
• This event can be a high simulating experience for some guest. For this reason we will have a sensory room and one of our therapist on-site to provide support if needed. 
• Every attendee MUST have their own ticket. NO ONE without a ticket or has been verified by We Are Family staff will not be allowed inside the building. Tickets will be available at the door, but we recommend getting tickets before the event to save time at check in.

• By attending this event all attendees, volunteers, and vendors consent to being searched with a metal detector upon entry and re-entry inside the venue.
• No outside food or drinks are permitted inside the venue unless approved by a We Are Family staff member. 
• No pets are allowed at this event. Only Trained Service Animals Are Allowed Inside, Therapy And Emotional Support Dogs Are Not Recognized BY ADA.
  
• There will be security as well as undercover security on site at all times for the safety of attendees.
• Attendees will not be allowed to wander outside the perimeter of the venue without the direct supervision of an adult or legal guardian present.
• Adults who wish to volunteer at this event must pass a SLED background check and complete our volunteer training before arriving to volunteer at this event. For more info, please email volunteercoordinator@waf.org
• Parents and guardians are allowed to enter the venue, however it is encouraged to not shadow your child at this event in order for them to experience the true magic of this event. Parents are invited to attend a special event at Bar Polari (1813 Reynolds Ave Suite C, North Charleston, SC 29405) for a special event benefiting We Are Family. 
• If parents and guardians have any questions or concerns the night of the event, We Are Family staff will be at the front check in at all time to assist. 
• All attendees who are driving to the event must be escorted to their vehicles by a safety marshal whenever they leave the event. Those who are being picked up must confirm their ride with a safety marshal before entering the vehicle.
• By attending this event, you agree to We Are Family's Coivd-19 Liability Waiver and our Space Agreements.
• If for any reason you don't feel safe or uncomfortable during this event, please see a We Are Family staff member or a volunteer wearing a purple name tag.
