    Event description

Miscellania is proud to present the exclusive Narrm performance for Chuquimamani-Condori (AKA Elysia Crampton Chuquimia, E+E).

Elysia Crampton Chuquima has had a paradigm-shifting influence on contemporary experimental music. Elysia belongs to the Pakajaqi nation of the Aymara people and incorporates traditional ways of knowing and being in her work, including the Aymara concept of taypi, “that place where so-called opposites or contrary things can be mediated”. She collapses sonic worlds together, constructing music that is profoundly unorthodox but also direct and accessible; fusing echoes of R&B, pop, and classical music to traditional Aymara concepts, rhythm, and instrumentation; collaging dissonance, beauty, and ugliness into a new harmonious whole. She will be performing a live/DJ hybrid set under her Jaqi name, Chuquimamani-Condori, the name given to her as a form of honour and recognition from the elders of her nation.

Elysia’s work spans across labels including PAN and Total Stasis, self-released mixes (like the recent ‘Rayo Mix 2022’) and tracks, that all reflect her singular approach as an artist, and a sound that is at once deeply rooted in history, place, and the present moment. Her work exemplifies the capacity of sound to carry intelligence, to communicate things that can be inexpressible in language, and to heal.

On support we have local music (e fishpool x sam miers) and DJ General Feelings - an incredible set of artists that are connected with Elysia’s practice, cultural influences, and creative philosophies. Each of them has also been a valuable sounding board in conceptualising and developing this show.
