Event description

Seminar Title: Unstable Settlers: The complex position of migrants of colour within left-wing social movements in so- called Australia (and Germany!?)

Presenter: Sunil Menon, PhD Candidate

Date and Time: Thursday, September 5th 12pm

Location: In-person and online

Seminar Description:

Migrants of colour occupy a complex place within settler-colonial societies, positioned within the intersecting structures of race, migration, colonisation and indigeneity. Those who actively participate in left-wing social and political movements grapple with the contradictions of these positions as part of a developing decolonial praxis. Building from the work of Indigenous writers and activists who have theorised the complicit role of migration in continuing settler- colonialism, this presentation will reflect on how non-Indigenous, people of colour talk to each other about the position they occupy on colonised land and how this might inform a practice of solidarity with Aboriginal resistance.
