Description

Women's Dance Movement Therapy

A gentle and welcoming 60-minute session created for women aged 25 and over to slow down, reconnect with themselves and explore well-being through movement.

Using gentle movement, music, body awareness and creative expression, each session offers a supportive space to release tension, explore emotions and connect with yourself and others.

No dance experience is needed - there is no right or wrong way to move.

This is a small, supportive group where you can come as you are, move at your own pace and take some time for yourself.

About the Facilitator:

Swaroopa is a provisionally registered Dance Movement Therapist with Dance Movement Therapy Australasia Inc. (DTAA). Swaroopa is a compassionate and creative Dance Movement Therapist, independent artist, and community advocate based in Perth. Swaroopa supports individuals and communities through movement, creativity, and embodied practices that nurture emotional wellbeing, self-expression, connection, and healing.

Swaroopa's approach is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and person-centred, creating safe and inclusive spaces where people can reconnect with themselves and others through movement and creative expression.

I have facilitated both individual and group programs across community and aged care settings, supporting participants to build confidence, social connection, emotional resilience, and a sense of belonging.

I offer individual and group Dance Movement Therapy sessions online and in person, and I welcome opportunities to work collaboratively with communities, organisations, and individuals seeking creative and holistic approaches to well-being.

FAQs

  • Do I need to know how to dance?

    No. No dance experience is needed. The sessions are about exploring movement in your own way, rather than learning dance steps or choreography.

  • What should I expect during a session?

    Sessions include welcome/greet and check in, gentle warm-up, gentle movement exploration using music, opportunities for reflection and cool down and wrap-up the session. You can always move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

  • What should I wear?

    Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Comfortable socks or bare feet are fine.

  • Who is this for?

    The program is for women aged 25 and over who are interested in exploring well-being, self-awareness and connection through movement.

  • Do I need to be physically fit?

    No. The sessions are gentle and can be adapted to different movement abilities and fitness levels.

  • Do I have to participate in every activity?

    No. You are always welcome to choose how much you participate. You can pause, observe or modify movements whenever you need to.

  • Do I need to attend all six sessions?

    No. Sessions can be booked individually, so you only pay for the sessions you choose to attend.

  • Is this a dance class?

    No. Dance Movement Therapy is different from a dance class. There is no choreography or focus on dance technique. The focus is on movement, self-expression and wellbeing.

  • What is Dance Movement Therapy?

    Dance Movement Therapy uses movement and creative processes within a therapeutic relationship to support emotional, physical and social well-being.

  • Will I have to talk about personal experiences?

    No. Sharing is always your choice. You can participate through movement, observation or reflection without sharing anything you don't feel comfortable discussing.

  • Is the group confidential?

    Participants are asked to respect the privacy and confidentiality of others and not share personal information discussed within the group. Group confidentiality agreement to be signed by all participants.

  • What happens if I can't attend after booking?

    Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend. No refunds will be provided. As this is a small group with limited places, advance notice is appreciated.

  • Can I try one session before deciding whether to attend more?

    Yes. Sessions can be booked individually, so you can attend one session and decide whether you'd like to return.
